A repentant burglar anonymously returned to his victims’ house years after the crime to make restitution and ask for forgiveness, the family says.

Darrell and Joan Crossler said their daughter recently found a $100 bill attached to a note on the front steps of their house.

“Dear family, several years ago some friends of mine and I broke into your house. I do not remember what was taken, but I’ve had this on my conscience for some time,” the note said. “I know I will never be able to replace that which was taken, or replace the feeling of being a victim. Please forgive me for what I have done.”

Crossler says the note probably refers to a break-in that occurred 15 years ago. A guitar and some credit cards, which later were used fraudulently, were stolen by someone who broke a window in a utility room, he said.
