Police booked a Silver Lake man in the shooting deaths of his former wife and her female roommate. Officers found Arlene Van Bebber, 33, and her roommate, Ann Marie Petrovich, 28, with gunshot wounds inside their apartment in the 1200 block of Sanborn Avenue, Sgt. Ron Young said. Van Bebber was pronounced dead at the scene. Petrovich died at a nearby hospital. Detectives learned that Van Bebber’s former husband, Bill Stevenson, 44, allegedly forced his way into the apartment and shot the two women, Young said. Stevenson reportedly then fled to his house at 1559 Murray Drive and refused to come out, Young said. A special weapons and tactics team responded and, after several tear gas canisters were thrown into the house, he surrendered, Young said, adding that the motive for the shootings was not known.
