Anticipating the mandatory retirement of Mervyn’s Chief Executive John F. Kilmartin in December, Dayton Hudson has named Walter T. Rossi to the chain’s top post.

Rossi, 44, has been president and chief operating officer. Kilmartin, who turns 65 in December, will continue as chairman of the Hayward, Calif.-based chain until next January.
