K mart plans to open 150 new discount stores.

Along with the discount department stores to be added by 1990, the nation’s second-largest retailer said it will open more than 800 specialty stores through 1990, adding at least 50,000 jobs. “We fully anticipate a continuing improvement in K mart’s approximately 4% share of the mass-merchandise market,” said K mart President Joseph E. Antonini in a presentation to financial analysts. Antonini said the company would continue its program of refurbishing existing K mart stores.
