Growing Concern Every Monday morning, farmers from Los Angeles to Tulare counties gather along Laurel Street off Bellflower Boulevard to sell fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and other produce at Bellflower’s Certified Farmers Market. At 8:30, about 25 farmers start setting up tables and unloading trucks filled with avocados, herbs, fish and assorted seasonal fruits, including watermelon, peaches and strawberries. Since it opened in March, 1986, more than 500 shoppers have visited the market each week, according to city officials, who say the enterprise generates about $5,000 in weekly sales. The market, in the center of downtown Bellflower, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
