Fire Takes Heavy Toll on 1 Home, Damages 4 Others
A second-alarm fire Friday caused an estimated $122,000 of damage to a Huntington Beach home and damaged the roofs of four more before firefighters were able to control the flames.
The blaze broke out about 10 a.m. at the residence of Rick and Sandra Weber, 10121 Crailet Drive. Neither of the Webers, nor their three children, were at home when flames erupted in an attic.
The fire spread throughout the house and leapt to wood shingle roofs of four neighboring houses on Birchwood Drive by embers carried on the wind.
It took 35 firefighters nearly 40 minutes to control the fire. Damage to adjacent houses was minimal because fire units were already on the scene. No one was injured and the cause of the fire at the home, which the Webers were renting, is still under investigation.
