The first miniseries of the fall season arrives Sunday and Monday nights with the airing of the four-hour, two-part “George Washington: The Forging of a Nation” on CBS. It airs 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 11 p.m. Monday on Channels 2 and 8.
Barry Bostwick and Patty Duke (seen on the cover) portray George and Martha Washington, taking again the roles they played two years ago on CBS in the eight-hour production of “George Washington.”
While the first program dealt with Washington’s life and times from his youth to the end of the Revolutionary War, this one covers his presidential years (1789-97) and shows his important role in holding the country together in those early days.
Like the first special, “George Washington: The Forging of a Nation” is solely sponsored by General Motors, and is based on the writings of Pulitzer Prize-winning author James Thomas Flexner.
