Citing continued deterioration in semiconductor sales and orders, National Semiconductor said it plans to shut down its semiconductor plants in the United States and Europe for a total of 14 days during the remainder of this year. In addition, the company observes seven paid holidays during that period. Combined shutdown and paid vacation days will include six days in October, and the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. The series of plant shutdowns affects about 8,400 employees in the United States and Europe.
