Santa Ana : Woman Burned Trying to Put Out Stove Fire
A Santa Ana woman sustained minor burns while trying to put out a stove fire that eventually destroyed her apartment, leaving her family homeless, a city fire official said Monday.
Concepcion Arevalo, 37, who lives in an apartment in the 1200 block of East Stafford Street, received first- and second-degree burns on her face, arms and left hand, Battalion Chief Richard Keller said.
The fire started in her second-floor apartment about 10:25 a.m. It caused damage estimated at $27,000 to the structure and $3,500 to its contents, Keller said.
Keller said hot food had been left on the stove unattended.
The Red Cross of Orange County will provide food, clothing and lodging for the family of four adults, a Red Cross spokesman said. The three other occupants were at work when the fire erupted.
