8 Youths Arrested in Motorist’s Slaying
At least eight Compton youths suspected of involvement in the gang-style slaying of a Norwalk resident were arrested during a dawn sweep, police said Thursday.
Compton Detective Alfred Preston said the roundup was launched in the wake of the slaying 13 days ago of David Martinez, 24, who was killed in the 400 block of West Pear Street. Martinez was shot in the chest while driving a car occupied by his wife, brother and two young daughters.
After the shooting, his car went out of control and crashed into a parked vehicle. No one else was hurt.
Police said Martinez had gone to the area to buy drugs.
