Santee Woman Dies in Traffic Accident

EL CAJON — A 78-year-old woman died Friday when her car went out of control and collided with an oncoming pickup truck, authorities reported.
Clara Mae Carey of Santee was pronounced dead at Grossmont Hospital a short time after the 10:45 a.m. accident. Carey was headed south on Cuyamaca Street just north of Weld Avenue when the accident occurred, said Debbie Partch, a spokeswoman for the El Cajon Police Department.
Witnesses told police that Carey lost control of her car as she approached cars that were stopped at a traffic signal. She went into a skid, crossed over the center divider and collided with the truck.
The driver of the truck was not injured, Partch said. A stretch of Cuyamaca Street was closed to traffic for about three hours after the accident.
