Ex-TV Executive Named Ambassador to Vatican

WASHINGTON —
President Reagan named longtime broadcast executive Frank Shakespeare to succeed William Wilson as ambassador to the Vatican, the White House announced Friday.
Shakespeare, a former CBS television executive, was a campaign aide for former President Richard M. Nixon and headed the U.S. Information Agency from 1969 to 1973. He is currently ambassador to Portugal.
