ATTACK OF THE COLORIZERS

Share

How dare the “colorizers” act as if they are making these films better by adding color (“Film Directors See Red Over Ted Turner’s Movie Tinting,” by Jack Mathews, Sept. 12). Anyone who has seen this process can easily see how inferior (not to mention immoral) it is.

Colorizers Charles Powell and Hal Gaba claim the public does not want to see black-and-white, yet a large number of videos and a growing number of commercials are seen and enjoyed in black-and-white every day.

They state that “most” black-and-white films were done that way because color was unavailable or too expensive; but these films were still done in black-and-white and designed to stay that way.

This is a dangerous trend which, with any luck, will go the way of 3-D glasses. Until then, anyone who believes in preserving the art of black-and-white film will do everything they can to stop colorization.
