Salute to Educator

Share

We don’t know why Dr. Gerald Rosander resigned, but we are losing the most dynamic and most effective educator/administrator our county office of education has ever had.

Dr. Rosander became superintendent of the San Diego County Office of Education in the wake of Proposition 13, when school employee moral was at an all time low. Through proactive programs and emphasis on the great good already in our county school systems, he brought state and national attention to our “excellence in education.”

A second salute is also in order. A successful administrator must be backed by an excellent Board of Education. This group of elected officials must not only be enlightened and dedicated, they must be able to continuously walk that elusive path between policy making and operational management. San Diego County Office of Education is fortunate to have had both important ingredients and their superb record shows it.

But wait! Why do a national search to find someone who can try to fill Dr. Rosander’s shoes? Why let him go? We have the best superintendent already, and we have outstanding individuals serving on the Board of Education. We urge them all to explore a way to keep this winning team together.
