Ex-Marine Gino Casanova, a Vietnam veteran who fasted for 51 days last year on behalf of U.S. servicemen he believes are held in Southeast Asia, is fasting again in a bamboo cage near the White House, awaiting President Reagan’s response to four demands by the National Steering Committee for Live POW Activists. The group is demanding a meeting with Reagan, an official admission that POWs “are presently being held against their will,” the appointment of a special representative to take part in discussions between the United States and the communist governments of Southeast Asia and the appointment of H. Ross Perot to head an independent commission to determine an official course of action.
