Merion Is Chosen Site for Two More Tourneys

The Merion Golf Club in the Philadelphia suburb of Ardmore, Pa., has been selected as the site for the 1989 U.S. Amateur and 1992 Women’s Open Championships, the U.S. Golf Assn. announced.

Merion has been the site of 12 USGA championship events, ranking second among courses in the country, including the U.S. Open four times (1934, 1950, 1971 and 1981), the U.S. Amateur four times and the Women’s Amateur four times.

Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., has been the site of the 13 USGA championship events. The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., also has staged 12 USGA championship events.

The 89th U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 22-27, 1989, and the 47th U.S. Women’s Open is scheduled for July 23-26, 1992.
