THE MALE DETAIL

Share

Menswear hasn’t changed much since the Duke of Windsor tied his famous knot. Today, though, there are clearly more options. For fall, classic suits and casual sport coats have been updated in bolder colors and richer fabrics. Knits, once strictly for active wear, are now prominent for dress. But it’s the frivolities that give a twist to the traditional: the slightly wider neckties in unusual prints, the leather and reptile belts, the polka-dot and plaid pocket squares. And this is the season to pair unmatched but complementary colors--burgundy with olive, plum with emerald--or to mix highly textured fabrics with soft, supple ones. In other words, more important than what a man buys is how he wears it.
