Brooks Clift; Former Television Director

Retired NBC staff television director William B. Clift Jr., known as Brooks Clift, died last Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage, his family announced. He was 67.

Clift, the brother of the late actor Montgomery Clift, directed more than 350 shows, including the “Home” show, hosted by Arlene Francis, from 1954 to 1956. He also directed productions for “Your Hit Parade,” “The Milton Berle Show,” “Philco TV Playhouse” and “Goodyear TV Playhouse.”

Born in Omaha, Clift graduated from Harvard University, was a U.S. Army counterintelligence agent in World War II, studied under the American Theater Wing and produced television commercials as an advertising executive.

He leaves his wife, Jo Anna; his mother, Mrs. William B. Clift; a sister, Ethel McGinnis, as well as eight children and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service and burial are pending at the Friends Quaker Cemetery, Prospect Park, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
