Trojans Lose Davis to Injury; Anno and Oregon’s Miller Are Doubtful

Share

USC has lost one starting inside linebacker for Saturday night’s game against Oregon at the Coliseum and may lose another.

Keith Davis broke his thumb against Washington last Saturday and will be sidelined for at least a week. Sam Anno suffered a hyper-extended knee and is listed as doubtful by Coach Ted Tollner.

Tollner also said that freshman safety Mark Carrier will redshirt this year. It was believed that Carrier, the former Long Beach Poly star, was suffering from bone spurs in his left foot, but X-rays showed that he has broken a small bone in the foot.

Oregon is in worse shape, though, than the Trojans. Chris Miller, the All-Pacific 10 quarterback, bruised a nerve in his right elbow in the Ducks’ 48-14 loss to Nebraska Saturday and is doubtful. If Miller can’t play, he will be replaced by redshirt freshman Pete Nelson. Flanker J.J. Birden, the Pac-10’s leading receiver, broke his arm Saturday and is out for the season. Defensive ends Rob Marshall and Joe Mansfield are doubtful with knee and hip injuries.
