I cannot agree more with the opinion stated by Warren Christopher. The importance of separation of powers and judicial independence cannot be overemphasized.
The politicization of our court system was inadvisable when President Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to “pack the Supreme Court of the United States” in the 1930s and it is equally inadvisable when Gov. George Deukmejian wants to “pack” the California Supreme Court now.
Justice Joseph Grodin is a meritorious judge and an independent thinker who should be retained by the public.
