RE-ANIMATED

Gore-getters beware: There are two versions (both on the Vestron label) of the splatter epic “Re-Animator” making the rounds of video emporiums. One is minus the gore.

Sure, you can get the original unrated 84-minute version that contains all the much-publicized graphic gore and violence. But there’s also a 95-minute R-rated version with none of the above.

Said Tony Timpone, editor of the horror film mag Fangoria: “Scenes with the bloody head and the stuff with the bone saw are deleted in the R version.” A bloody surgery scene has also been trimmed.

Inserted into the R-rated version is a subplot involving hypnotism. The cut-and-paste job was done by Empire Pictures for a 1985 R-rated theatrical version (done while “Re-Animator” director Stuart Gordon was in Europe for his latest bloodletter, “From Beyond”).
