City Officials Arraignment Delayed
The arraignment of four Whittier city officials on charges of unlawful dumping of hazardous materials in a city maintenance has yard been postponed until Oct. 23.
Los Angeles Municipal Court Judge Glenette Blackwell Thursday continued the arraignment after attorneys representing the City of Whittier and four of its top officials asked for more time to review the case before entering a plea.
The city was charged with a felony count of unlawfully disposing of hazardous wastes--paint residue and thinners--in a dirt trench in the city yard. The four officials were also charged with a misdemeanor count involving the same allegations.
The four are: Louis Sandoval, director of public services; Vergil Haight, director of public works; Ralph Williams, street and maintenance superintendent, and David Bradbury, mechanical superintendent.
In addition to fines, the four could be sentenced to one year in jail if convicted on the felony counts.
