Asian Phone Service Begins: Southern California Edison Co. this week inaugurated an Asian-language telephone service to assist customers who speak Chinese, Vietnamese or Cambodian, company officials said. The toll-free lines will be answered by customer service employees who can answer questions about bills, request for service or additional information in those languages. The telephone service, which is available for customers within the 213, 714 and 818 area codes, will be in operation weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., holidays excepted. The telephone number for Chinese-speaking customers is (800) 843-8343; for Cambodian speakers, (800) 843-1308, and Vietnamese-language customers, (800) 327-3031.
