AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: The British music press is abuzz over the news that Paul McCartney is due to go into the studio with the original members of the Crickets, Buddy Holly’s back-up band. A longtime Holly fan and owner of the valuable Holly song catalogue, McCartney will work with Dave Edmunds on the project, though there’s no firm news of just what form this reunion will take. . . . Steve Miller (remember him) will be back later this month with a new album, “Living in the 20th Century.” The first single, due out any minute, is called “I Want to Make the World Turn Around,” while other songs include such blues standards as “My Babe,” “Big Boss Man” and “Ain’t That Lovin’ You Baby.” . . . The Monkees’ Davy Jones is at work on a solo record, which is slated to include a remake of the Swinging Blue Jeans’ “Hippy Hippy Shake.” . . . Paul Young has a new album due out later this year called “Between Two Fires.” . . . The Psychedelic Furs will also be back soon, with a new record titled “Midnight to Midnight.” . . . Meanwhile, Chris Hillman has signed with MCA/Curb Records. . . . And our favorite celebrity endorsement of the week comes from Carl Perkins, who’s signed a deal with Reebok to help publicize a new line of (what else?) blue suede shoes.
