Vandalism is becoming an increasing problem at the city’s parks, with vandals causing more than $1,000 in damage in the month of August, city officials said.
The city’s Community Services and Recreation Commission said graffiti sprayed or carved on park equipment is the “No. 1 vandalism problem.” Deliberate breaking of park equipment is the second most frequent problem.
Sigler Park suffered the most vandalism in August, all of it in the form of graffiti, the commission said. Commissioners identified Buckingham Park as the second most defaced recreation area.
Commission Chairman Jerry Meade urged residents interested in stopping park vandalism to call him at (714) 895-2860 regarding volunteer graffiti eradication programs that are now under way.
