Airport Policeman Faces Theft Charges

A Burbank Airport police officer will be arraigned today on felony grand theft charges after a monthlong investigation into allegations that he stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the facility, Burbank police reported Wednesday.

The officer, Bruce Humphrey, 37, of Tujunga was freed on $1,500 bail after his arrest Tuesday morning, Burbank police Lt. Duane Dow said.

Neither police nor airport officials would say how much money was stolen or how the alleged theft occurred. Dow did say, however, that more than $400 has to be reported stolen for the crime to be considered a felony.

“It appears to be an isolated case,” Dow said, and there is no evidence that Humphrey was acting with others.

An airport spokesman said Humphrey has been placed on unpaid leave pending disposition of the case.
