A weak cold front will move through San Diego this morning and continue to move right on out of the area by this afternoon, leaving the weekend skies clear and temperatures quite average for the middle of October.

There will be local dense fog and a chance of drizzle through noon today in all areas of the county, National Weather Service forecaster Grady Svoboda said.

“By (this) afternoon, skies will be partially clear, and mostly clear by Saturday,” Svoboda said. “There will be some pockets of fog Saturday morning, but all in all we’re looking at a fair weekend.”

The fog will mean cooler-than-average temperatures today, Svoboda said, but they will warm up again by Saturday. The high temperature at Lindbergh Field should reach 70 today. The average for this date is 75. Saturday’s high should reach 74.

Surf will be three to five feet over the weekend, a bit higher than average because of a faraway storm off the coast of Mexico. Ocean temperature will remain about 66 degrees.

“This is pleasant surf for (board) surfers, but it is not so pleasant if you happen to be a body surfer,” Svoboda said.

High temperatures at the beaches will be from 68 to 73 today and from 70 to 76 Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be from 58 to 63.

Inland valleys will have highs ranging from 69 to 74 today and from 72 to 80 Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the 50s.

The mountain and desert regions will be mostly clear through Saturday, with a 20% chance of thundershowers by Sunday afternoon. Highs in the mountains will be between 52 and 60, with overnight lows between 30 and 38. Desert highs will be in the low 80s, with lows from 55 to 65.

“There really is absolutely nothing unique about this weekend,” Svoboda said. “Thundershowers in the mountains and desert regions are not unusual, some dense local fog is not unusual, even the size of the surf is not uncommon.”
