Proposition 63: Official Language

Share

Your editorial, urging California residents to vote against Proposition 63, is as asinine as I have ever read in your paper.

The United States and the State of California are English-speaking, and always have been. That foreigners keep crowding in is no reason to change that. Of course they should learn English, now the second language is almost every country in the world, although The Times seems unaware of that fact.

They have always had an opportunity to learn English in this country, and those who have failed, did not want to exert themselves. You are doing your readers an injustice in stating that Proposition 63 would do more harm than good. That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it, but you have no right to try to lead your readers up the garden path--to a dead end.
