The Umpire, Not Mauch, Should Have Been Ousted

Share

In the Oct. 10 Angel-Red Sox playoff game, umpire Nick Bremigan disgraced himself. He demonstrated both immaturity and incompetence. Bremigan, not Manager Gene Mauch, should have been removed from the playing field. He ran up from his area of responsibility and injected himself, unwanted and unneeded, into the fourth-inning decision that the other umpires had already completely messed up.

Perhaps to save face, the umpire-in-chief feels he has to banish Mauch. However, he should at the same time banish the obviously incompetent Bremigan. His petulant behavior demanded action on the spot.

Anyone who has watched the playoffs and the World Series of 1985 and the playoffs in 1986 has seen the blatant failures of umpires. Please dump the Bremigans while they are still young enough to push brooms some other place.
