Irvine : AMI Ground-Breaking Ceremony Attracts 800
During a ceremony attended by more than 800 onlookers, ground was broken Saturday afternoon for the AMI/Irvine Medical Center, to be built at Sand Canyon Avenue and Old Barranca Road.
Besides hearing speeches by various local officials, the audience witnessed the setting of a time capsule at the site.
Hospital promoters had sent invitations for the event to every household in the city touting refreshments, gifts and live entertainment. Organizers had set out chairs for about 400 spectators, but nearly twice that number attended the ceremony.
