Reagan-Grobachev Meeting in Iceland

A vast majority of Americans should have known long ago that the conference on arms control in Iceland would fail. Also, that every conference on that subject involving Ronald Reagan will fail.

It is now and has always been obvious that he and the men around him are completely beholden to the military and industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned us about.

Reagan obviously wants to spend as much as he can as fast as he can on military hardware. His trillion-dollar “Star Wars” project will never be given up; there’s too much in it for his billionaire buddies.

Reagan’s efforts for the remainder of his term will be directed toward pretty paragraphs in the history books and more “photo opportunities.” It is easy to observe the psychological twist that rules the man.

Just like a 5-year-old playing soldier, he runs around saluting everything in sight; lamp posts, planes, tanks and everything else. His invasion of Grenada demonstrated his desire to “play soldier.” He will do that some more by expanding the invasion of Nicaragua, bombing Managua and sending in paratroops.

We’d all be a lot better off if we could buy Reagan a couple of fancy uniforms with eight-star insignia, a barrel of jelly beans and ship him to the mountains behind Santa Barbara to stay. I’d be glad to buy him some new axes to chop wood with.
