I believe the writers and producers overstepped legal and medical ethics in the “Cagney & Lacey” episode on Sept. 29 in which Detective Isbecki obtained heroin and administered it to his dying mother in the hospital. As a nurse, may I say on behalf of the medical profession that although dying is never pleasant, pain control levels are successfully attained so as to never justify or necessitate the illegal use of heroin as depicted on the program.
