Two Appointed to Judgeships

Malibu resident Bernard J. Kamins has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court and Jacqueline Ann Connor of Santa Monica has been named a Municipal Court judge for the Los Angeles Judicial District by Gov. George Duekmejian.

Kamins, 44, replaces Judge William Drake, who has retired.

Kamins was appointed a Municipal Court judge last year. From 1969 to 1985 he was a trial attorney for the Los Angeles County public defender. From 1979 to 1982 he was the public defender’s deputy in charge of the West Los Angeles Municipal Court, where he supervised 10 attorneys.

Kamins is a member of the State, Los Angeles County and American Bar associations. He has been a law professor at Pepperdine University since 1978.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1965 and his law doctorate from USC three years later.

The annual salary for a Superior Court judge is $81,505.

Replaces Ashmann

Connor replaces Judge Judith Ashmann, who was elevated to the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Connor, 34, is a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney specializing in criminal prosecution, a position she has held since 1977. She is a member of the California District Attorney’s Assn. and served as the co-chairwoman of its Sexual Assault Committee from 1981 to 1982.

She also is a member of the State and Los Angeles County Bar associations. She has been a member of the state Advisory Committee for the California Sexual Assault Services and Prevention Program.

Connor received her bachelor’s degree from USC in 1973 and her law doctorate from there three years later.

The annual salary for a Municipal Court judge is $74,432.
