North County : Anaheim Apartments Get OK Despite Protests

Share

A proposed apartment complex in Anaheim that prompted protests from residents in neighboring Buena Park was approved by the Anaheim City Council last week and will be constructed early next year.

Hugo Vasquez, president of Anaheim-based Young Lion Development, said he plans to begin construction next January of a 44-unit complex in the 200 block of North Western Avenue, which is on the Anaheim side of that city’s border with Buena Park.

Last month, the council asked the developer to negotiate with unhappy residents from neighboring Buena Park, who live near the proposed complex.

Vasquez called the 44-unit project a compromise from his original 50-unit proposal. Buena Park residents had complained that the complex would invade their privacy, generate noise and devalue their property.

Residents met with Vasquez every Wednesday night for several weeks to negotiate on the project. Vasquez said he plans to construct a subterranean garage and the apartments facing the homes--on the north side of the complex--all will be one-story units.
