Two Parachutists Die Making Tandem Jump

ELLINGTON, Conn. —
A novice parachutist and her teacher, making a tandem jump, were killed when the instructor apparently failed to open the chute, police said today.
Mary Scott, 29, a Yale University student from Portsmouth, England, and instructor William H. Womble III, 41, of Manchester, Conn., were killed Sunday at Ellington Airport. Police said it was Scott’s first jump.
