An Imperial Beach man was killed Sunday night when he crashed his motorcycle on Silver Strand Boulevard while fleeing from Coronado police. Jesus Herrera Valdez, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner’s deputies.

According to a Coronado police spokesman, Valdez was seen by two police officers in a patrol car driving “at a high rate of speed” south on Silver Strand Boulevard. The motorcyclist led the police car on a high-speed chase for about six miles before he apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed near the Imperial Beach city limits, police said. The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
