The State : Pot Leads Girl, 10, to Turn In Parents

Share

A second Sutter County girl has accused her parents of drug-related crimes, triggering the discovery of 25 marijuana plants growing under lights in the attic of her family home and the arrest of her parents, officials said. The 10-year-old girl, whose name was withheld, telephoned the Sheriff’s Department and whispered, “My parents are growing marijuana,” deputies said. Investigators arrested Clinton Minix, 49, and Pauleah Minix, 31, on charges of cultivating marijuana. The couple, who also have a 12-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, were released on $2,500 bail. Their three children were placed in county foster care. John Summers, a county community services counselor who spoke with the girl, said: “She told me she didn’t want her mother to do this. She said she knew it was bad for her.” He said the child was influenced by recent news accounts of a 13-year-old Sutter County girl who told authorities that her mother was running a drug laboratory.
