Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Hong Kong aboard the royal yacht Britannia after a six-day visit to China. A flotilla of boats, as well as helicopters, bands and a 21-gun salute, greeted the queen as her yacht arrived from Canton. Giving strong support to the Sino-British agreement by which Peking is to regain sovereignty over Hong Kong in 1997, the queen told Hong Kong residents that the pact and the commitment of London and Peking will be “an assurance and an encouragement to you as you face the challenges of the future.”
