Anthony R. Conti, 42, chairman and chief executive of B. Altman & Co., was sentenced to two years probation and fined $2,000 for failing to file a federal income tax return. He was charged in June with failing to file on $307,000 in gross income in 1980, 1981 and 1982. At his sentencing, Conti told the judge that he didn’t think his failure to file returns should have had criminal consequences. B. Altman & Co. operates six department stores in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
