Four Asian-Pacific Americans Honored

The USC Asian Pacific American Support Group will honor four Asian-Pacific Americans at its second annual awards dinner next Friday at the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles.

Award recipients are Jack C. Lee, chairman of the board of First Public Savings Bank and creator of the first private scholarship fund in the Chinese community; Royal F. Morales, co-founder and president of Search to Involve Filipino Americans, which works with inner-city youth; Mary Shon, adviser in the Office of Bilingual/ESL Instruction and Asian Languages Program for the Los Angeles Unified School Project, and U.S. District Court Judge Robert M. Takasugi, who was the first Japanese-American to become a federal judge.

The event is a fund-raiser for scholarships. The support group’s goal is to raise $1 million to assist the 4,000 Asian-Pacific students at USC. Tickets to the 6 p.m. dinner are $75 per person. For information call J.D. Hokoyama at (213) 743-4999.
