Today: Several candidates for seats on the Huntington Beach City Council and a candidate for city attorney will appear at an ice cream social sponsored by Huntington Beach Tomorrow. Council candidates Grace Winchell, Tom Livengood, Rick Lowe and Norma Vander Molen and city attorney candidate Ted Johnson will be present at the event, scheduled from 2:30 to 4:40 p.m. at Lake Street Park Clubhouse. A $5 donation is requested.

Today: John Erskine, candidate for Huntington Beach City Council, will be honored at a rally from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, 18381 Golden West St. There is no charge for the event.

Sunday: Bruce W. Sumner, Democratic candidate for the 40th Congressional District, will be honored at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at Five Feet Restaurant, 328 Glenneyre St. in Laguna Beach. Tickets are $25 per person. For reservations, call (714) 835-6420.

Sunday: A fund-raising reception will be held for Rep. Ed Zschau, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Irvine Marriott Hotel, 18000 Von Karman Ave. Reservations are $25 a person and may be made by calling Rena Godsall at (714) 759-8281. Wednesday: Joseph R. Grodin, associate justice of the state Supreme Court, will speak on the role of the Supreme Court and the coming election at 4 p.m. at Temple Judea in Leisure World, 24512 Moulton Parkway in Laguna Hills.

Nov. 1: Orange County Democratic Associates is holding a “Pre-Election Victory Celebration” from 8 p.m. to midnight at Camberly Court, the Countryside Inn, 325 Bristol St., Newport Beach.
