Negotiators reached a tentative agreement Friday that could end a six-week strike by 9,600 telephone workers--but not for at least two weeks.

The proposal covering members of the Connecticut Union of Telephone Workers employed by Southern New England Telecommunications Corp. will be voted on in a secret mail ballot to be completed by Nov. 8.

Union Vice President Ron Cavanaugh said the strike, which began Sept. 13, will continue until the ballots are counted. No details of the proposed agreement were disclosed.
