As many as half of the students at Wellesley College boycotted classes Friday to support 49 other students arrested a day earlier when protesting the trustees’ decision to retain stock in companies doing business in South Africa. Student organizers said about 1,100 of the college’s 2,230 women students stayed away from classes.
