There can be a lot of reasons for not making the high school cheerleading squad. Being told that she had not been chosen because her breasts were too large was not one Vicki Ann Guest expected to hear.

The Fountain Valley teen-ager filed a lawsuit against school officials asking the court to declare that her treatment by a teacher at Fountain Valley High School was unconstitutional. A separate demand was filed with the school district for $1 million in damages for emotional distress.

In the suit filed by noted feminist attorney Gloria Allred, Vicki claims that the adviser for the cheerleading squad told her she needed breast reduction surgery.

Allred said the school’s “policy is sexist, ignorant and dangerous and must be changed.”

School board member Jerry L. Sullivan said, “No one would be stupid enough to create a policy like that . . . and if one surfaces, we’ll get rid of it yesterday--I can tell you that.”
