A Letter to Nancy

Share

Jerry Hulse’s Oct. 12 article, “A letter to Nancy,” touched my heart. My husband and I were entranced and excited about exploring the world by traveling. We had decided several years ago that this mutual interest was a high priority, and we were fortunate to have been able to see parts of Europe, the Orient, South America, the Caribbean and much of our beautiful United States.

We took our children occasionally, and they were thrilled by the adventure of it all. On Aug. 31 my husband and two teen-age sons were killed in the Aeromexico plane crash returning from Loreto, Mexico. They had been on a much-anticipated fishing trip and, I understand, had a wonderful time.

I feel so fortunate to have shared those unforgettable moments at the Great Wall of China, climbing among the ruins of Machu Picchu, looking down on the city of Paris from the Eiffel Tower and eating all the glorious food everywhere we went. This tragedy in my life has not lessened my desire to see more of the world--by air or otherwise. It only confirms in my mind that, as Jerry said, there are no promises in this adventure called life, and the real tragedy is failing to live each moment to its fullest. MARY WONG West Covina
