Los Alamitos : Firefighters Just Cross Street for Garage Blaze

Share

When a garage fire in a condominium on Green Street broke out about noon Sunday, a resident didn’t have to go far to summon help.

“Station 2 of the Orange County Fire Department is on Green Street, right across the street from the six condos,” department engineer Steven King said. “One of the residents, Leslie Koehler, came running across the street and told us the garage was on fire.”

King said the firefighters immediately responded “but the fire in the garage was already fully involved. . . . Fire was boiling out the front door and lapping at the second-floor windows.”

Nonetheless, King said, firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze within 10 minutes, confining almost all the damage to the garage in the 3600 block of Green Street.

No one was injured in the fire, and the cause had not been determined by late Sunday evening, King said. He estimated damage at $12,000 to the structure and $10,000 to contents.
