Los Alamitos : Less Strict Ordinance for RVs Is Under Study

Faced with protests from several residents, the City Council is considering a more flexible ordinance for recreational-vehicle parking than one originally proposed.

The proposed ordinance--which would affect only vehicles parked on private property, not sidewalks--was being debated during a public hearing Monday evening.

At a first public hearing two weeks ago on the matter, RV owners, including boat and trailer owners, protested that the ordinance would go too far.

By regulating RV parking, the proposal was intended to make neighborhoods aesthetically appealing. But City Manager Michael Graziano said it also addresses other concerns, such as safety and crowding problems. He said other residents have written asking for stricter rules and admonishing the city not to be lenient on RVs.

Vehicles parked on sidewalks and other public areas fall under vehicle code regulations, Graziano said.
