As the witching hour approaches, local theaters are plotting Halloween happenings. Here are 13 theatrical tricks and treats, to be held on Halloween night only, unless otherwise noted:

--The Groundling Theatre’s improv troupe promises a ghostly edition of its comedy revue at 8 and 10 p.m. As an additional treat, audience members who come in costume will receive a ticket to a future Groundling production. Prizes will be awarded for the unusual and outlandish. (8 and 10 p.m., 7307 Melrose Ave., Hollywood, (213) 934-9700.)

--Comic pianist “Dale Gonyea: A 12 O’Clock Guy in a 9 O’Clock Town” has added Halloween material and tunes to his regular Friday show at the Canon Theater in Beverly Hills where costumed theatergoers will receive a $2 discount on the price of admission. (8:30 p.m., Canon Theater, 205 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, (213) 859-2644 or (213) 480-3232.)

--Contribute to the carnival atmosphere at the Coast Playhouse by coming costumed to a special midnight performance of Tom Eyen’s bizarre comedy “Why Hanna’s Skirt Won’t Stay Down.” (8:30 p.m., Coast Playhouse, 8325 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (213) 650-8507.)

--Wear the ‘40s look to “American Satire,” an evening of comedy, Halloween treats and activities at Theatre West, and get in for half-price. (8 p.m., Theatre West, 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West Hollywood, (213) 851-4839.)

--Indulge in more recent nostalgia at Carlos & Charlie’s by attending the Perines’ musical spoof of the ‘60s in the mod and mini attire of that era. (9 and 11 p.m., Carlos & Charlie’s, 8240 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, (213) 656-8830.)

--Or come as a favorite television character to “Familiar Faces,” a musical comedy revue presented by KIEV Radio talk-show host Gregg Hunter on Friday and Saturday at the Elbow Room in Hollywood. Character actor Jack Fletcher, a familiar face on television, is the special guest. (9 and 10:30 p.m. both days, Elbow Room, Cassis Bar and Grill, 8450 West 3rd St., (213) 653-1079.)

--In Studio City at Room for Theatre, George S. Kaufman’s 1925 Broadway behind-the-scenes comedy “The Butter and Egg Man” allows its audience the chance to attend in period costume and enjoy post-performance “vintage” holiday treats. (8 p.m., Room for Theatre, 12745 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, (818) 509-0459.)

--Consumable Halloween goodies will be found at the Tiffany Theater where two comedy musicals run on separate stages: “Nite Club Confidential” at 8 p.m. and L.A. Theatre Works’ “Bouncers” at 8:30 p.m. on the South Stage. (Tiffany Theater, 8532 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, (213) 652-6165.)

--Demonic comedy lurks at the Wallenboyd Theater where John Fleck’s strange Halloween play about possession, “I Got the He-Be-She-Be’s,” shares the bill with Rob Sullivan’s slightly sinister theater piece “Flower Ladies and Pistol Kids.” (8 p.m. Also Saturday at 8 p.m., Wallenboyd Theater, 301 Boyd St., (213) 629-2205.)

--The night wouldn’t be complete without a haunted house.
