Whittier : Dumping Hearing Delayed

Share

The arraignment of four Whittier officials on charges of unlawful dumping of hazardous materials in a city maintenance yard has been postponed until Nov. 17.

Los Angeles Municipal Judge Glennette Blackwell continued the arraignment because each of the defendants has hired separate attorneys who requested the continuance so they would have more time to review the case.

The four officials are: Louis Sandoval, director of public services; Vergil Haight, director of public works; Ralph Williams, street and maintenance superintendent, and David Bradbury, mechanical superintendent.

The city was charged with a felony count of unlawfully disposing of hazardous wastes--paint residue and thinners--in a dirt trench in the city yard. The four officials were also charged with a misdemeanor count involving the same allegations.

In addition to fines, the four could be sentenced to a year in jail if convicted.
