Anaheim : Police to Receive Raise of 17% Over Three Years

The city’s 308 police officers and sergeants will receive a 17% cumulative pay raise over the next three years under a contract ratified this week by the City Council.
The agreement between the city and the Anaheim Police Assn. provides for an 8% salary increase for officers, retroactive to Oct. 3; another 5% increase in October of 1987, and a 4% increase in October, 1988, according to Garry McRae, the city’s human resources director.
The 8% raise means that the salary of a beginning police officer will rise to $2,220 a month, McRae said. For experienced officers, the maximum salary rate will jump to $2,974 per month.
The new contract also calls for the city to increase by 3% its contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System, beginning July 1, 1987.
City officials called negotiation on the three-year contract one of the “smoothest” in recent years.
